Our Trip

Day 11 - May 8

On this day we already had to say good-bye to Karabakh (and one day later also to Armenia) - the weather made it a little easier for us, though, as in the morning it was rainy and rather cold. We had a long trip in front of us today - our destination was Yerevan. This did not mean, however, that we did not do sight seeing on that day!

Back in Armenia we stopped in one of the very poor villages where several women stood at the road side and waited for passing cars hoping that somebody would stop and buy some of their vegetables and flowers. However, we brought something to them. Some of our group had taken used clothing, toys, etc. from home to give it to the people. Here again it was remarkable how modest and decent the people were. Nobody pushed oneself forward, nobody begged. On the contrary, they told us about a particularly poor family with many children who desperately needed clothes!

Our next stop was Noravank Monastery to which one could only get through an impressive canyon - there is a street leading through, though, so we did not have to climb ;) The monastery itself is on a hill. Before the visit we had lunch in the restaurant near the monastery.

Later we stopped in a village where we could see several stork nests.

In Yerevan we were in the University Guesthouse again, but only for about half a night as our flight would start very early the next morning. We took our dinner at a restaurant near "Lovers' Park". Apart from the interesting interior and the good food we enjoyed a little theatre play by three group members - one of them Hermann. Afterwards we had to try and get some sleep before having to get up again.

Money
Armenian Dram
- the money on the photo is about 60 Euros, 85 USD or 50 GBP
which is the monthly salary for many Armenians, but not enough to live on
